Marian Poboroniuc has been Assistant Professor for Robotics and Systems Theory at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (TUIASI) since October 1991. Since October 2014 he is Professor for Robotics & Neuroprostheses at the same faculty, and also Habilitated Professor since 2016, affiliated to the TUIASI Doctoral School.

He studied electrical engineering at TU Iasi, Romania from 1985 till 1991, and he received the Dipl.-Ing. degree from the TU Iasi in 1991. In parallel with his duties at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Iasi he performed his doctoral studies and he received the Dr. degree from the POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest in 2000. In 2001 he joined the Institute of Automatic Control Engineering, TU Munchen  where he has pursued postdoctoral research into modelling and control of neuroprostheses as NeuralPRO TMR Fellow. He continued his postdoctoral work as NeuralPRO Control Engineer within the Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, University College of London, from 2002 till 2003. In 2003, he returned to the Technical University of Iasi where he coordinated several research projects dealing with neuroprosthesis control algorithms and he is also active in the Neurology Clinic of the Rehabilitation Hospital of Iasi by jointly teaching FES courses and developing neuroprostheses supporting gait and arm therapies. He currently leads the ENERGY CONVERSION AND MOTION CONTROL SYSTEMS RESEARCH CENTRE (SCECM) . 

His current research interests involve mobile robots control algorithms, human motion analysis and synthesis, neuroprosthetics, biomechanics, and rehabilitation robotics. He authored and co-authored more than 70 journal and conference articles and 2 patents. He is a member of IFESS and SETIS, a speaker of the EPE2006, and a member of several conferences International Program Committees. He was awarded with several prizes including the bronze medal to the 3rd International Exhibition of Invents, Research and Technological Transfer, October 9-13, 1996, Iasi, Romania, the Jean Peperstraete AWARD of EAEEIE (European Association for Education in Electrical and Information Engineering) for the best presented paper, during The 17th EAEEIE Annual International Innovation in Education for Electrical and Information Engineering, June 1st-3rd, 2006, Craiova, Romania, GOLD medals and CYBERLIFE AWARD at EUROINVENT2014- European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation, 22-24 May 2014, Iasi, Romania, Intelligent Systems Award and Gold Medal at 7th International Fair of Inventions and Practical Ideas, INVEST-INVENT2016, 15-17.09.2016, Iasi, RO. The last achievements are: the EUROINVENT 2017 GRAND PRIZE, European Exhibition of Cretivity and Innovation, Iasi, Roamnia, 2017 (544 exhibited inventions and projects; 39 countries); Grand Trophy “INVEST-INVENT” 2021, “The International Fair of Inventions and Practical Ideas INVENT-INVEST 2021”, Iasi, 10 decembrie 2021 (for the idea: HYBRID MECHATRONIC SYSTEM - NEUROPROSTHESIS FOR ARM RECOVERY IN PATIENTS WITH NEUROMOTOR IMPAIRMENT; patent license RO130961/30.08.2021); Gold Medal at EUROINVENT 2022: Poboroniuc Marian-Silviu, Bulboaca Angelo, Irimia Danut-Constantin, Bulboaca Adriana, Olaru Radu, „HYBRID MECHATRONIC SYSTEM -NEUROPROSTHESIS FOR ARM RECOVERY IN PATIENTS WITH NEUROMOTOR IMPAIRMENT”, EUROINVENT - EUROPEAN EXHIBITION OF CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION 2022.
